About ECO Park Project
The ECO Project embodies a multidimensional approach to revolutionizing farming practices in emerging and developing regions facing climate change.
Tracts of land are transformed into ECO Parks that provide economies of scale, financial and technical support, small farm automation and advanced science to resist climate change for resident farmers.
This innovative approach utilizes a practical scientific approach to regenerative farming that can mitigate the impact of greenhouse gases.
The project integrates a self-financing income model, primarily focusing on transforming small farmers from subsistence farming to small agricultural holdings capable of food supply export.
Jamaica is one of the countries selected as the pilot for this groundbreaking project.
The ECO Project concept was developed by an international team of small farmers, business and project managers, agronomists, biotechnologists, and environmental and land engineers from Norway, Canada, Jamaica, and Guatemala.
Financing and Productivity:
After the initial capital investment, which is recovered after the first crop sales, the ECO Project is self-funding for agricultural expansion, community education and support and fund conservation activities to further fight against climate change.
One of the primary facets of The ECO Project is to provide financing for small farmer operations, alleviating financial obstacles and empowering farmers to invest in their productivity.
Furthermore, the project aims to boost productivity by making automated equipment available, streamlining farming processes, and enhancing operational efficiency.
Sustainable Agriculture and Yield Enhancement:
The project incorporates sustainable agricultural practices by leveraging biochar, customized organic fertilizer pellets, and utilizing local microbe cultures added to the soil.
These inputs are selected based on soil fertility and the crops chosen for each growing season, ensuring that farmers optimize their yield using tailored, environmentally friendly approaches.
Market Access and Climate Adaptation:
The ECO Project strategically focuses on establishing a robust distribution channel to international organic markets, allowing small farmers to expand their reach and increase income.
Additionally, it endeavours to mitigate the impact of climate change by utilizing plant tissue cloning to develop seeds for plants that exhibit resilience to environmental stressors, safeguarding the farmers’ future productivity.
Environmental Impact and Carbon Neutrality:
With a forward-looking perspective, the project incorporates bamboo and local plant material to create a carbon-negative sink. By utilizing these natural and sustainable resources, the ECO Project aims to offset carbon emissions, contributing to environmental conservation and sustainability.
In Summary:
The ECO Project is a low-cost holistic endeavour that envisions the transformation of small-scale farming by incorporating financial empowerment, sustainable practices, global market access, and environmental consciousness. Through its multifaceted approach, it holds the potential to catalyze change, empower small farmers, and drive sustainable agricultural development in communities across the tropics and subtropics.
